An overview 

Wildlife Conservation General Administration (WCGA) is the Government body responsible by mandate for the wildlife conservation, protected areas management, game reserves, and insurance of wildlife development, sustainability of wildlife utilization in the country. The Administration is the implementing agency to the international, regional convections, agreements and protocols signed by Sudan in the field of wildlife conservation and management.
The administration represents the Sudan Government in international, regional conferences, workshops and as well responsible for provision of wildlife information, reports, internally and externally. The Administration operates as to encourage wildlife resources scientific research.

 

The wildlife conservation General Administration is one of the oldest governmental administrations in the country; it was established in the year 1902 concurrently with the Khartoum Zoo. The administration was under the administration of the first administrative secretary, immediately after the independence in 1960th the administration was affiliated to the Ministry of Animal resources and integrated with the fisheries department.

 

In 1970 the administration was affiliated to the ministry of Agriculture and natural resources.
In 1977 a presidential decree was passed to establish organized forces referred to as wildlife and national parks forces. In 1980 the Administration was affiliated to the ministry of Tourism. In 1981 it was affiliated to the ministry of Interior, under the supervision of the state minister, ministry of tourism during which all the cadre were militarized.
